Review: Stranger Song (1973)

A tale told in shadows
of cities of enormous size –
attune your eyes to the enviable darkness.

And drips, the pipes and gutters sing
some song of water as protagonist
walks and skulks the City
silent as the plot.

But man and woman meet and love
is felt and lost and flung along
the pavement where the gutters lie
and tell their song and sing
their lie, their shape of City.

A hymn to City, City is all
above the man and woman, lovers
who silent walk underneath the song
of City and its dwellers.

Attune your eyes to dark and take
your heart along to view and lose
the will to see, to love and choose.
