Knights of Malta

Brother Tomás took to weighing up
what he had done, what she had done
and found she had deserved to die –
he hid her body badly.

Brother Raymond stole two weights of gold
equal to life, equivalent
to what he asked for from the Church –
he sold his treasure badly.

Two monks at loss, two left to their lightness,
bright faced, they stole from Life and Church
a weight from each, a weight they kept –
we judged them both gladly.

Philip and I led them away bright faced,
placed a sack upon them, hiding
faces, making weights of them –
we dropped them overboard, gladly.
